What Should I Wear to a Boudoir Photoshoot?

One of the first questions I get after someone books is:
"What should I wear?"
Take a deep breath, because the answer is simpler than you think.
You do not need a suitcase full of expensive lingerie. You do not need to know what's trendy. And you definitely don't need to wear something that doesn't feel like you.
The best boudoir outfits are the ones that make you feel confident. Whether that's lace, leather, an oversized sweater, or your favorite bodysuit, the goal is to wear pieces that make you feel amazing.
Here's my guide to choosing outfits that photograph beautifully.
My #1 Recommendation: Bodysuits
If I could recommend one piece of lingerie to every client, it would be a bodysuit.
Why?
Because they're flattering on virtually every body type.
A great bodysuit hugs your curves, smooths where you want it to, and naturally draws attention to your waist. They're available in everything from soft lace to bold mesh to long sleeves, high necklines, plunging necklines, and everything in between.
If you're only buying one piece for your session, make it a bodysuit.
Classic Bra & Panty Sets
You can never go wrong with a beautiful matching set.
Whether you love something simple and elegant or strappy and bold, a coordinated bra and panty set photographs beautifully. If it includes a garter belt, even better. It adds another layer of texture and elevates the overall look without much extra effort.
Oversized Button Downs & Sweaters
Not every outfit has to be lingerie.
One of my favorite looks is an oversized white button-down shirt, an off-the-shoulder sweater, or even your partner's dress shirt.
These create soft, cozy, intimate images while still showing just enough skin. They're perfect if you want a more relaxed or romantic vibe.
Leather, Jackets & Statement Pieces
Want something with a little attitude?
Bring it.
A leather jacket over lingerie. An oversized blazer. A favorite band tee. A denim jacket. Even a pair of jeans with an unbuttoned bodysuit.
Some of the most memorable images come from outfits that reflect your personality instead of following a "boudoir uniform."
Accessories Make a Difference
The little details can completely change a look.
Consider bringing:
Heels (if you love them)
Jewelry
Robes
Stockings
Garters
A favorite hat
A meaningful piece of jewelry
A cozy blanket or cardigan
Accessories give us options without requiring an entirely new outfit.
What Colors Photograph Best?
While black will always be timeless, don't be afraid of color.
Some of my favorites include:
Emerald green
Burgundy
Navy
Plum
Deep teal
Ivory
Rich jewel tones
These colors photograph beautifully and flatter a wide range of skin tones.
Of course, if black makes you feel like a million bucks, wear black.
Confidence always photographs best.
What Should You Avoid?
There aren't many hard rules, but here are a few things I generally recommend avoiding:
Everyday nude bras you've had for years
Ill-fitting lingerie that's too tight or too loose
Clothing with lots of wrinkles
Anything you don't feel confident wearing
If you're constantly adjusting an outfit in front of the mirror at home, you'll probably be adjusting it during your session too.
Choose pieces that fit well and make you feel good.

You don't.
