How to Prepare for a Boudoir Photoshoot: 15 Tips for the Best Experience

So you've booked your boudoir session...

First of all, congratulations!

Now comes the fun part...getting ready.

The good news? Preparing for a boudoir session doesn't have to be stressful. You don't need to completely reinvent yourself or spend weeks getting "ready." A little planning goes a long way, and the goal is to help you feel relaxed, confident, and excited when your session arrives.

If you're still wondering what the experience is actually like, check out What Actually Happens During a Boudoir Session before you continue.

Here are my top tips to help you have the best experience possible.

1. Don't Crash Diet

Please don't.

Your session is about celebrating who you are today, not punishing yourself to become someone else.

Eat well. Stay hydrated. Move your body if it makes you feel good. But don't feel like you need to change yourself before stepping in front of the camera.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Hydrated skin photographs beautifully.

Start increasing your water intake a few days before your session to help your skin look healthy and refreshed.

3. Moisturize Daily

A little lotion goes a long way.

Well-moisturized skin photographs smoother and gives your skin a healthy glow.

4. Schedule Waxing Carefully

If you wax, try to do it two or three days before your session.

This gives your skin time to calm down and helps reduce redness or irritation.

5. Be Careful With Spray Tans

If you choose to get a spray tan, have it done several days before your session.

Fresh spray tans can transfer to lingerie and studio furniture, and uneven fading is much harder to edit than most people realize.

6. Get Your Nails Done (If You Want)

Your hands appear in a lot of images.

A fresh manicure is a nice finishing touch, but don't feel like you need elaborate nail art. Clean, neutral nails are always a great choice.

7. Wash Your Hair the Night Before

Freshly washed hair can sometimes be too soft to hold curls.

Washing it the night before often gives your stylist the best starting point. Skip heavy oils or styling products unless your stylist recommends them.

If your Experience includes professional hair and makeup, don't stress about styling it yourself. Your stylist will take care of the rest.

8. Eat Before You Come

Seriously.

You'll feel better, have more energy, and enjoy your session so much more if you aren't running on coffee alone.

9. Wear Loose Clothing

Try to avoid tight bras, socks, leggings, or jeans for a few hours before your session.

They can leave marks on your skin that take time to disappear.

10. Pack Everything the Night Before

Gather your outfits, shoes, jewelry, and accessories the night before.

Not sure what to wear? Read my What Should I Wear to a Boudoir Photoshoot? guide for outfit inspiration, color recommendations, and my favorite wardrobe pieces.

If you're still shopping, browse the Bondage & Bows Curated Boutique, where I've handpicked lingerie that photographs beautifully. Every Signature Experience also includes access to my Client Closet, so don't feel like you have to buy an entirely new wardrobe.

11. Don't Stress About Posing

This is probably the biggest worry I hear.

You do not need to know how to pose.

I'll demonstrate every pose, guide you through every movement, and coach you from beginning to end.

Your only job is to listen and have fun.

Curious what that process actually looks like? I walk you through it step by step in What Actually Happens During a Boudoir Session.

12. Trust the Process

There will probably be moments where a pose feels funny.

Maybe you're arching your back more than you ever have.

Maybe you're giving yourself a strategic wedgie.

Trust me.

Those little adjustments are what create beautiful images.

13. Sleep Well

Getting a good night's sleep will help you feel refreshed, energized, and confident.

Plus, your skin will thank you.

14. Leave Comparison at the Door

Every woman who walks into my studio has something she's self-conscious about.

Every. Single. One.

Comparison steals joy.

Your session is about celebrating your story, not measuring yourself against someone else's.

15. Relax and Have Fun

This isn't a test.

There are no grades.

No one expects perfection.

Come ready to laugh, step outside your comfort zone, and let yourself enjoy the experience.

You've Already Done the Hardest Part

Booking the session is often the biggest hurdle.

Everything after that?

I've got you.

From helping you choose outfits to planning your wardrobe, guiding every pose, and making sure you feel comfortable every step of the way, my goal is to make this experience as easy and enjoyable as possible.
